We have finished our study of standards 1, 2, and 19 from the information in chapter two of our book. We will have our test over the standards tomorrow. Be sure that you look over the following items:
Section 1 - Concepts of government and the documents from our English heritage.
Section 2 - 5- The First and Second continental congresses. The Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation (weaknesses), The Constitutional Convention, The Constitutional compromises, ratifying the Constitution, Federalist and anti-federalist.

Ok here we go. I have been away form the page for a few days trying to catch up on all of the changes in our new grading system. We are still trying to iron out some of the bugs so hopefully by next week our classes will be set and there will be no more movement.

Government classes are going well. We have covered standards 1, 2,and 19. We are completing this week part "A" of standard 1 and can expect a quiz of some type by the end of the week. Please be sure that you are completing your work and studying for your quizzes and test.

Homework for tonight is questions 9-13 on the studyguide. Be sure you have the work completed when you come to class.

Today we had an introduction to our first large quiz over chapter one. This was actually more like a test with the number of questions. I am in the process of grading the papers and hope to have them for tomorrows class.

After the quiz, we worked on the chapter 2 study guide and completed the questions 1-8. Be sure to have those questions and the chapter 2 section 1 vocabulary finished for class tomorrow.

Welcome back for another great year at LHS. Today we covered the rules and regulations for our class. Remember that all items from the Code of Conduct apply in this classroom.

We will hit the ground running tomorrow with our pre-test that will contain 50 questions on all facets of government. This is a what do you already know type test so there is no need to study or try and study.

When we have completed the pre-test, we will then go into the book and work on the study guide for chapter #1:

Sorry for the problems on the blog this week. For some reason I was blocked from signing in to my page and last night it was finally fixed. This week we have covered chapter 13 and moved into chapter 14. Today we are taking the final test/quiz over chapter 13 and working on the sheets for chapter 14. I will attach the sheets below just in case you have lost yours. Be sure that the sheets are completed for Friday's class.

We have discussed a time line for the remainder of school and it looks something like this:
        * This week complete all of chapter 13 and the first two sections of 14.
        * Monday finish 14 and begin portions of 15 and 16. There will be a test over portions of 14, 15, and
           16 on Thursday of next week.
        * The exam study guide will be given next week in the later part of the week. 100 vocabulary words
           and a study sheet broken down by chapters. We will have an end of the year vocabulary test on the
           Friday before Exam week.
        * Chapter 18 will be covered the week just before exams and will be tested on that Thursday.

I will still place the daily information there but the students will have to pay close attention in class when we cover material. I feel as though I am spoon feeding and the only thing they will learn is the shape of the spoon.

Sorry for the late post today but I had to leave school early due to not feeling well. I will make this short and sweet so I can get back to bed before my head rolls off my shoulders. Today the students were assigned all of the vocabulary form chapters 5 and 6. They were also to complete the section 5 study sheet. Many of the items on the study sheet are vocab but they are to ID the items that are not vocab. I am hoping to be back tomorrow but I am making no promises right now.

For those who missed the test on Friday, you must make the test up tomorrow. I will have the test ready for Coach Richey to give to you if I am not there. Be sure to study. Your final grade is not correct right now.

The final grades are now posted on I-Parent. Understand that this is a semester course and in order to get credit they must have a 70 avg consisting of the 1st and 2nd 9 weeks plus the final exam. I will be sitting down in the next few days with the students that are not performing well in class so that we can get off on the proper path for the second nine weeks.

Today we were out of the classroom for the first three periods. Each class completed the chapter 19 section 1 quiz and also a cartoon for chapter 19 section 2. I will attach the cartoon this afternoon if I can get back to my computer. I handed out the reading for this chapter and that reading covered the case of Engel v. Vitale (1962).

Today we had a discussion of the political cartoon attached below. We answered the questions and then discussed how we must view the rights that we have with the responsibilities that each of these rights carry. At the end of class, I handed out a worksheet with a few different items on it. Please be sure to complete the the left side of the sheet, (section1 of chapter 19), for tomorrow. There are only 17 questions on that sheet. All grades are posted for each class. If you see that you have a M on your i-parent account, then you have a missing grade for that piece of work. Remember that there are only 2 weeks left in the 9 weeks and every point is big.

Today we covered the remainder of chapter 4 in preparation for the test on Wednesday. After some of the discussions in class today, I belieeve that all of you need to go back and be sure that you have read. Some of you claim to have read the chapter but you are not able to answer any of the reading questions. Remember that I will not spoon feed you, the only thing you will learn from spoon feeding is the shape of the spoon. Attached is the graphic summary for section 3. Each student also received a crossword puzzle for the chapter. If you were out today, be sure that you get the sheet when you return to class.

Today we took the test over chapter 2 sections 3, 4, and 5. If you were out, make sure that you are prepared to make the test up in the morning. I will be here at 7:20 to start the make-up test. Please be sure to bring paper with you, the make-up will have short answer and an essay on it.

After the test, the assignment was to complete the following:

Complete the vocab for sections 1, 2, and 3 of chapter 3.

We will continue our work through this unit for the remainder of the week and look to test on chapter 3 next Wednesday.

Congrats on a great day in class today! Usually on Friday class tends to drag on but today was a good day for the Articles of confederation. We completed the tree map and started the introduction to the Constitutional Convention. If you were out today, we finished through question #16 on the study guide. When we return Monday, we will finish the study guide and review for the Tuesday test.

Today we covered section 3 of chapter 2 in government. We discussed the Articles of Confederation and worked on the tree map. I talked to the classes about doing their best work and completing homework on time. We have to many folks just not completing work. If I send work home to be done over night, we will do something with it the very next day. Please make sure that all work is being completed and that you are studying for upcoming test.

We Have Survived One

We have survived the 1st week of school and must now get down to the job at hand. Due to the illness of one of my children, I was unable to attend classes today. The assignment while I am away consist of the following items:

Completion of sections 2 and 3 worksheets.

Completion of sections 1 and 2 quiz.

Completion of the vocab questions on pg.24 in the book. (1-10)
